Parsons (Tallahassee,
FL) uses BD2 and BD2GUI for the Ernest Lyons Bridge
– Feb 2004
Parsons Bridge and Tunnels, of Tallahassee, Florida
uses the new capabilities of the Bridge Designer Service
2000 to provide Design services on this 4,600-foot
pre-cast segmental bridge over the Inter-coastal Waterway
with span-by-span construction according to the LRFD
design specifications for live-loads. The Florida
DOT now requires the use of the HL93 Truck as well
as LRFD load combinations on all new structures designed
in the State of Florida.

BD2 Used for New-Jersey
Victory Bridge
Using Bridge Designer II and BD2GUI, LoBuono Weidlinger of
New York City NY provided a full check of all construction
stages and final time-dependent deflections and stress redistribution
for the Victory Bridge (designed by Figg Engineering). The
model was comprised of 3 units connected by expansion joints,
2 constant depth span-by-span approach units of 7 spans each,
and the variable depth main span unit with 3 spans of …-…-…
over the navigation channel.

MC3D Geometry Control
on Florida Projects
LoBuono Weidlinger is providing Construction Engineering
services to AMEC Civil in Jacksonville Florida (SR9A
/ I-295 / I-95 Interchange) and PCL Civil Constructors
in Tampa (Tampa-Hillsborough Expressway). The MC3D
Geometry Control program is being used to monitor
casting of concrete segments on both projects.

IBT Uses BD2 &
BD2GUI on Unidad Bridge in Monterrey Mexico –
August 2002
International Bridge Technologies, of San Diego, CA
designed this cable-stay bridge in association with
SOCSA, a local engineering company. IBT provided conceptual
and final detailed design for the superstructure,
stay suspension system and pylon. A detailed analysis
of the structure during all construction phases was
performed using non-linear cable-stay analysis capability
of Bridge Designer (BD2).

Product Information & Updates
Composite Sections &
Spliced Girders (BD2 V3.05)
Bridge Designer Version 3.05 has been released and is already
being used by a number of consultants. Corven Engineering
used BD2 V3.05 for Load-Rating checks of existing spliced-girder
structures in Florida (using LRFR specifications) and Ralph
Whitehead Associates of Charlotte NC uses BD2 to design new
structures of this type. This new version of Bridge Designer
performs proper time-dependent stress redistributions for
differential creep and shrinkage, as well as self-equilibrating
stress corrections due to non-linear strains generated by
time-dependent effects on composite sections.
BD3 Beta 2 Available to BD2 Licensees
BD2GUI V 1.1 Update Available
Interactive Design Systems has released a new version of BD2GUI.
Version 1.1 is a much improved version of the product, with
numerous performance improvements and greater stability. BD2GUI
Version 1.1 may be used to graphically display all construction
phases as well as displacements and force diagrams during
construction, and service live-load envelopes. The Service
module (Service 2000) supports the LRFD code by automating
placement of the HL93 on influence lines.
BD2 Version 3.04 Released
Bridge Designer Version 3.04 was released in May of 2003,
and has been used successfully by numerous consultants over
the last 10 months. In particular…
BD2 runs on all flavors
of Windows (95/98/ME, NT4.x, 2000 and XP)
All IDS products, including BD2 and BD2GUI run on all flavors
of the Windows platform.
